I found myself wondering as I thought over my day,
       "How do I really know the Lord listens when I pray?"
In Bible times, it was easy. His followers always knew.
       He performed many miracles showing what they should do.

"Yes, but only very few people ever saw miracles of that kind;
       raising the dead, parting the Red Sea or healing the blind.
Everyone else had to travel by faith, moving one step at a time.
       Following the path I laid out, something I do for those who are Mine.

If you think back, you’ll remember all the signs I left along your way.
       So you wouldn’t get lost, become discouraged or wind up going astray.
I know you saw everyone of them; for I placed them with care.
       And I placed them so only you would know that I’d been there.

And though you haven’t seen a sign like the parting of the Red Sea,
       do you really need something like that to know I listen to your plea?
With each sign passed by, I placed a feeling in your breast;
       that I was aware of you, loved you and once again you’d been blest."

"Yes...," I said. "I remember seeing those signs many times before.
       How foolish not to remember now and need be reminded once more."
As I looked over my life, it was now obvious that He listens when I pray.
       For there stood all the little signs I had found ...scattered along my way.
